it’s amazing how vicious nature can be. the tsunami death toll went over 200,000… still counting. of course, millions more are sick and starving. it’s amazing, really. one minute you are sitting at home, drinking your coffee and the next, you are desperately trying to run away from a deadly wave. tragic…
however, let’s rewind. do you know how many people died during the second world war? or take world war I, for that matter. do you know how many people stalin purged in the 1930s? do you know how many people were killed during the rwandan massacre of 1994? let’s face it… people kill people much better. in fact, the 20th century has seen great progress in the killing of people by people: the first total war took place in the 20th century, the a-bomb was invented in the 20th century, the word genocide was coined in the 20th century… on top of all that, people have tortured and tormented mother earth in countless ways. not only have we killed each other, but we also killed birds and animals, rivers and lakes, trees and forests… the list goes on. endangered animals, dead jungles, depleted ozone, polluted atmosphere – what more can nature take? it’s time for her to strike back. we deserve it. it seems that the 21st century will become the century of redemption… indeed, it’s time for us to pay for our sins.
